Congratulations to 2nd Deputy Chief Michael Lessar on his new position as Fire Chief of the Pottstown Fire Department. Chief Lessar served the citizens of Reading for nearly 20 years. Firefighter Lessar was hired in June of 1997, and was assigned as a jumper firefighter on the D platoon.

The Reading Fire Department recently received the delivery of new SCOTT self-contained breathing apparatus. In total 74 SCBA's, 148 air cylinders, and 4 RIT paks were obtained along with a pak-traker system.

On April 7-9, The Reading 47's competed in the DC Firefighters' Burn Foundation Hockey Tournament. This tournament raises money in order to assist in the recovery and rehabilitation of injured firefighters and burn patients in the DC Metropolitan area.
