The Reading Fire Department held their annual memorial service to honor those lost on 9/11 of 2001. The ceremony was held in city park, and after comments from officials, a remembrance wreath was laid on a memorial placed there.

The Reading Area Firefighters Museum has been storing a vintage 1923 American LaFrance pumping apparatus for many years. The owners have recently notified the museum that they must sell the truck. The rig has been in the city since it was purchased.

It is with deep regret we announce the passing of retired firefighter Samuel Royle. Sam retired from the fire department in March of 1980. He last worked Snorkel 1 on the B platoon. Services will be held at the Theo Auman Funeral Home on Penn Street in Reading.

As of August 13th, all front-line Engine companies are equipped with the medication Naloxone(NARCAN) to treat victims of suspected drug overdoses. On August 15th, Engine 5 was dispatched to the parking lot of the McDonalds on Lancaster Avenue for an unconscious person.

On Sunday morning firefighters transported 16 year old Rose Dasnez to Philadelphia to catch a bus for Mid-Atlantic Burn Camp. The firefighters union was contacted through several people and organizations to arrange for transportation.

Congratulations to firefighter Kerry Miller on his retirement after 35 years of service to the City of Reading. Kerry Miller was hired on June 16th of 1980. After fire training, Miller was assigned to the D platoon as a jumper.

Congratulations to Patrick Kozak on his retirement after 25 years of service to the City of Reading.Pat Kozak was first hired by the department on January 1st of 1977, however he would leave in 1980 to explore a venture outside of Pennsylvania.
