Congratulations to Firefighter Keith "Sarge" Eschleman on more than 25 years of service to the city. Sarge began his career on June 26th, 1989. After completing fire training he was assigned as a jumper on the "C" platoon.

Reading Fire Department statistics from the year 2014. The department experienced an increase of more than 17% percent in total runs. With the addition of a 4th Medic unit in late 2013, EMS runs increased 13%.

Congratulations to Firefighter Jeffrey Weitzel on his retirement after 20 years of service to the City of Reading. Jeff began his career on February 1st of 1995. After he completed the fire academy, Firefighter Weitzel was assigned as a jumper on the "A" platoon.

Due to the poor condition of some of the staff vehicles, the city has taken delivery of two 2015 Ford Explorers. The vehicles will be assigned to Car 3 (Serba) & Car 6 (Lessar).

Early in the morning of January 28th of 1985, the history of the Reading Fire Department was tragically altered when box 1726 was struck for a fire at the YMCA. First arriving units reported fire showing from the first and second floors along the Reed Street side of the building.

Congratulations to C platoon Paramedic Trent Zulick on his promotion to Lieutenant in the Fire Marshal's Office as per directive 2015-01Trent was hired in January of 2001 when the city began providing EMS through the fire department.

The Reading Firefighters held two charity birthday parties at the Southwest Fire Station this month. The parties were auctioned during the MDA Black & Blue Ball this past year. Lucky children are able to have their birthday held inside the firehouse complete with fire truck rides.
