Congratulations to William Milyo on his appointment to the Chief's Office as Administrative Officer. Bill was hired on June 16th of 1997. After completing the fire academy he was placed on the D platoon as a jumper firefighter.

The new recruits officially completed the training academy on Saturday afternoon during a small ceremony held at the Reading Hospital School of Health Sciences. The program featured speeches by Acting Chief Mogel, Retired Chief Mogel & Mayor Vaughn Spencer.

Congratulations to Firefighter Michael Welsh on his retirement after serving the city for 25 years. Mike was hired on June 26th, 1989. After training, Welsh was placed on the C platoon as a jumper firefighter.

The Reading Fire Department took to the streets today to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Firefighters raised over $3300 dollars to help send children to an annual summer camp. We thank all the citizens and commuters who donated money to the cause.

During the Tuesday evening City Council meeting, members of council unanimously voted "No" to Fire Chief applicant Nicholas Wooten. The Fire Department has been without a permanent chief since July of 2013.

A big congratulations and good luck to Reading Fire Marshal Todd Iaeger. Todd has resigned to take a Fire Marshal's position with the Chapel Hill Fire Department in North Carolina. Todd began his career with the department on June 16th of 1997.

The RFD Ice Hockey Team went up against the RPD Team this past Sunday, during the 9th Battle of the Badges Game at the Santander Arena. The game is played annually before a Reading Royals game with proceeds from ticket sales going towards the Battle of the Badges Scholarship Fund.

On Monday February 24th, 7 new recruits started at the Fire Academy. The new recruits will undergo a 5 month academy before being released to the street. In 2 years, the department has hired more than 35 firefighters due to the financial aid of an assistance to firefighters grant.
