In an urban environment such as the City of Reading parking is always at a premium. Area's designated for fire hydrants are always an easy answer to the desperate person to be able to park near their home. The situation is nothing new as the Reading Fire Department has been dealing with the issue for years. Firefighters are always trained to adapt and overcome the scenario to get the job done. Recently, a 3rd Alarm fire where a vehicle blocked a hydrant captured the attention of hundreds of people on our social media platform. Fox 29 out of Philadelphia reached out to the department and requested to do a story on the situation. A reporter from the station rode with Deputy Chief Banks for a few hours on a nightshift and was surprised to find blocked hydrants within minutes of leaving the firehouse.
While we completely understand the parking situation in the residential neighborhoods of the city, try to imagine the problems it creates for the fire department in trying to get water to fight a fire.
